About Us
The Department of History at Malatya Turgut Özal University was established in 2021 under the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences and has since begun admitting students. Currently, the department offers undergraduate and graduate education with a total of five academic staff members, including one Associate Professor and four Assistant Professors. The department is organized into five subfields: Ancient History, Medieval History, General Turkish History, History of the Republic of Turkey, and History of Ottoman Institutions and Civilization. The language of instruction in our department is Turkish.
The History Department aims to foster new values in line with the goals of a democratic university that respects human rights. Our mission is to educate individuals who possess a solid foundation in historical knowledge, can make objective evaluations, are open to development, entrepreneurial, innovative, respectful of ethical values, and capable of passing on their knowledge and experience to future generations in an unbiased manner.
The aim of our History Department is to equip students who choose this field with a solid foundation in historical knowledge, the ability to read, understand, and interpret historical documents, and the capacity for comparative analysis with the support of various disciplines. The curriculum is designed to cover not only Turkish history but also different areas of world history.
In this context, in addition to Ottoman Turkish courses provided throughout undergraduate and graduate education, classical languages such as Arabic and Persian are offered as elective courses in our department to enable students to comprehend these fields effectively.
Moreover, our department also organizes activities outside the scope of the history discipline to prepare students for life after graduation.
In summary, our goal is to nurture individuals who can become competent educators, possess the qualifications to work in various professional fields, and have the awareness and adaptability to position themselves appropriately in a changing world.
